EU: One Health, a comprehensive approach for better well-being

Understanding the deep connections between the health of humans, animals and ecosystems is more important than ever before, according to Dr. Hein Imberechts and Dr. Arnaud Callegari, who jointly lead the One Health Jointly European Programme (EJP). The magazine Horizon, the EU Research and Innovation Magazine, spoke to these experts about how the environment affects animal-to-human diseases, the link between antimicrobial resistance and animal and environmental health, and how better animal welfare could improve human health. Other topics covered are the achievements of the initiative and the main policy and political challenges ahead. The project EJP, a landmark partnership with public authorities across Europe, ended in September 2023 after five years.
