International: New Lancet Report calls for more cross-sector collaboration
A recent report by the Lancet One Health Commission, published on 2nd August 2025 in The Lancet, with contributions from institutions including the Royal Veterinary College, calls for a fundamental realignment of global health systems. In light of crises such as zoonotic diseases, climate change, and antimicrobial resistance, the report advocates for a cross-sectoral understanding of health – spanning humans, animals, and the environment. The experts emphasize that current systems for surveillance, education, and funding still operate too much in isolation. Low-income countries remain particularly underrepresented. The report outlines ten key recommendations – including the institutional anchoring of One Health, systems thinking, new educational approaches, and sustainable financing. The Commission’s recommendations, ranging from institutional reforms and education to integrated surveillance and sustainable financing, are grounded in a broad research process. This included literature reviews, cross-sector stakeholder engagement, and expert dialogue. Building on the work of bodies like the Quadripartite for One Health and the IPCC, the report advances a systems-level understanding of health within socio-ecological contexts and offers a governance framework rooted in One Health principles.
