International: FAO launches new open-access course on One Health principles

28-07-2025

On 22 July 2025, the FAO Virtual Learning Centers (VLCs) launched a new free self‑paced e‑learning course titled “Introduction to One Health”. Building on previous region-specific, tutored One Health training, this new format opens the field to a wider, interdisciplinary audience and promotes cross-sectoral learning and collaboration. It is aimed at professionals working at the human–animal–environment interface, such as veterinarians, public health officers, environmental specialists, and policymakers. The course provides participants with a foundational understanding of the concept, origins, and global relevance of One Health – especially in the context of today’s most pressing health and environmental challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and antimicrobial resistance. Structured in five concise modules (approx. four hours total), it combines key concepts with real‑world case studies, such as how rising temperatures affect the sex ratio of sea turtles or how climate‑smart farming practices can improve respiratory health and reduce emissions. The course is fully open-access, accessible via mobile or desktop, and awards a certificate of participation upon completion.
