Switzerland: National Council rejects nationwide chipping requirement for cats and fundamental ban on the killing of healthy domestic animals

On Tuesday, the National Council voted 108 to 80 against a nationwide chipping requirement for cats. The motion by Meret Schneider (Green Group) demanded compulsory registration for domestic cats, as already exists for dogs.

Yesterday, a motion by Lorenzo Quadri (Swiss People's Party) was also rejected by the National Council with 121 to 55 votes. The motion demanded a fundamental ban on the killing of healthy domestic animals.
