EU: EU Parliament publishes briefing on the legal status of animals in animal shelters and sanctuaries

As part of the briefing series of the EU Parliament think tank “At a Glance”, a briefing was published on April 23, 2025, in which the most important information on the legal status of animals housed in animal shelters and sanctuaries was compiled. In particular, the legal situations in different member states were compared with each other and it was shown how the legal status of former “farm animals” changes in some cases and how different animal welfare regulations may apply to the animals as a result.
