Switzerland: Consultation on the 2025 Agricultural Ordinance Package

The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) launched the consultation on the 2025 Agricultural Ordinance Package  on 23 January 2025. The proposed adjustments aim to strengthen plant production and make livestock breeding support more sustainable. In the field of animal breeding, federal contributions will in the future be allocated based on specific criteria such as economic viability, product quality, environmental impact, resource efficiency, animal health, and animal welfare. Regarding the equine sector, breeding subsidies will only be provided for the Freiberg breed.

The new regulations are set to come into force on the 1st of January 2026, and the consultation period runs until the 1st of May 2025.
