Switzerland: Winter Session: Response of the Council of States to motions lowernig wolf protection

05-12-2024

On winter session day of 3 December 2024, the Council of States rejected Motion 22.3478 (submitted in the National Council by Regazzi Fabio (The Centre faction. The Centre. EVP)), which calls for the creation of wolf-free zones. According to the Council, this plan is hardly feasible, as wolves travel large distances without concerning themselves with administrative borders.

However, the Council of States did approve the Commission's Motion 24.4257, which calls for a reduction in bureaucracy for cantons with regard to protection from the wolf, and referred it to the National Council.
