Switzerland: Lowering of wolf protection will be a focus of the winter session

In the upcoming winter session (2–20 December 2020), the National Council and Council of States will focus on the question of relaxing and ‘reducing bureaucracy’ in wolf protection.

 Due to a motion (see no. 3 below) it will be discussed on whether population regulation should in future be carried out at the regional level and to what extent cantons can designate wolf-free zones. In addition, the committee is calling in its motion (below no. 1) for faster approval of applications to shoot problem wolves and easier access to financial aid for herd protection.
The following three motions will be the basis for dealing with the topic in the session:

1) Motion 24.4257 «Zielgerichtete Regulierung Wolf mit weniger Bürokratie» (eingereicht im Ständerat von Kommissionen für Umwelt, Raumplanung und Energie (UREK))

2) Motion 22.3477 «Weniger Bürokratie und wirksamere Massnahmen zum Schutz vor Wolfsschäden in der Schweiz» (eingereicht im Nationalrat von Regazzi Fabio (Die Mitte-Fraktion. Die Mitte. EVP.)

3) Motion 22.3478 «Gesetzliche Grundlagen dafür schaffen, dass die Kantone wolfsfreie Zonen ausscheiden können» (eingereicht im Nationalrat von Regazzi Fabio (Die Mitte-Fraktion. Die Mitte. EVP.)
