International: Constitutional Reform on Animal Welfare in Mexico
26-11-2024
On 20 November 2024, the Mexican Senate approved legislation that, pending ratification by a majority of its states, will formally enshrine animal protection in the Constitution for the first time. The new law modifies three articles (3, 4, 73) of the Constitution and grants Congress the authority to create animal welfare legislation. It also establishes humane education as a mandatory principle in all educational institutions across the country. NGO’s have advocated for this reform by reaching out to legislators and gathering public support via online petitions.
