A Ministry for One Health?
In a column on page 33 of the July 2024 issue of the magazine ‘La Revue du Trombinoscope’*, Professor Aloïse Quesne** proposes the creation of a One Health ministry for the first time. According to Quesne one barrier in reforming health law towards “One Health” is the strict division between the numerous ministries dealing with either human or animal health or environmental protection. In the long term, Quesne envisages a unifying health system (human health, animal health, biosphere health) in which there would exist one profession called a ‘doctor’, under which there would be a specialisation in human or veterinary medicine. According to Quesne, there should also be health centres that contain human and veterinary departments. However, the first step towards unifying the health sectors could be the creation of a Ministry for One Health.
